What this project shows

This finished project combines an irregular flagstone-style field with a brick border. The two patterns do different jobs: the field creates broad stone-like movement while the border gives the patio a defined edge.

Design takeaway

When more than one pattern is used, they should have a clear relationship. A restrained border can organize an irregular field without making the overall surface feel overly busy.
