Concrete Pool Deck Resurfacing

A worn deck can take away from a pool you love. Resurfacing brings a fresh look to suitable existing concrete, with texture and edge details planned for poolside use.

Before you decide

A few questions you may have.

You can start with a goal and a few photos. We will help resolve the details for your actual surface.

Do I need resurfacing or just resealing?

A faded but sound decorative finish may be a restoration candidate. Peeling or failing layers may need removal and a new system. Start with photos so we can narrow the direction.

How does the finish feel underfoot?

Texture and protection are selected around poolside use. We discuss traction, cleaning and sun exposure; no surface is guaranteed slip-proof or cool in every condition.

What happens around the pool edge?

Coping, joints, drainage and transitions are part of the plan. This service covers the surrounding concrete deck; it does not resurface the inside of the pool.

Detailed planning guidePlanning, preparation & care

A worn pool deck does not always need to be torn out. When the existing concrete is a suitable candidate, we can repair, prepare and resurface the deck with a texture, color direction and protection plan built around the way the pool area is actually used.

This service is for the concrete walking surface around the pool. It is not plaster, liner, fiberglass or interior pool-shell resurfacing.

Not Every Worn Pool Deck Needs the Same Fix

The right scope depends on what is already on the concrete, how well it is bonded, the slab condition, cracks and movement, drainage, pool-edge transitions and the result you want.

Refresh / Renew

If an existing decorative finish is fundamentally sound but faded, worn or due for maintenance, cleaning, repair, color touch-up or restaining and resealing may be the better path.

Resurface

When the concrete is serviceable but the surface needs a new texture or design direction, resurfacing can create a new finish over the properly prepared deck.

Another Approach

Major slab movement, severe settlement, structural failure or a surface that cannot be prepared reliably may call for a different repair plan or replacement.

Texture, Color and Transitions Work Together

A pool deck is not just a color choice. Surface profile, sun exposure, water, existing coping and borders, maintenance expectations and how people move around the pool all affect the plan.

  • Knockdown / spray texture: a lower-profile textured direction that keeps the deck visually clean while adding surface character.
  • Custom decorative overlays: stone, tile, ashlar or hand-troweled directions when the concrete and project conditions support them.
  • Color + border direction: light neutrals, gray, warm earth and contrasting accents planned around the coping, home and landscape.
  • Traction planning: texture and traction additives can be considered for wet use, but no concrete surface should be represented as slip-proof.

Color, sun exposure, texture, moisture and surrounding conditions all affect how a deck feels underfoot. We do not promise a specific surface-temperature reduction unless the exact project system supports that claim.

The Pool Edge Changes the Resurfacing Plan

Pool decks have transitions and wet-area conditions that a normal patio may not.

  • Coping + edge transitions: coping, cantilevered edges and separation between the pool structure and deck must be understood before the finish is built around them.
  • Joints + movement: movement joints, isolation points and cracks should be evaluated and respected.
  • Drainage + water: drains, slope, ponding history and repeated wet use affect preparation, layout and maintenance.
  • Existing coatings: old coatings, sealers and contamination can change the preparation scope.
  • Protection + access: the pool, coping, landscaping and adjoining surfaces need protection during the work.

A Pool Deck Finish Starts With the Existing Concrete

  1. Inspect + plan. Review deck condition, previous coatings or sealers, cracks, joints, pool-edge transitions, drainage, exposure and access.
  2. Prepare the surface. Clean and prepare according to the actual condition, including removal of contaminants or failing material where required.
  3. Repair + protect details. Address agreed repairable cracks, chips, spalls or problem areas within scope while protecting pool edges and adjoining surfaces.
  4. Build the finish. Install the approved texture, pattern, color direction and border/transition details.
  5. Protect + explain maintenance. Apply the specified protection and provide project-specific care and return-to-use guidance.

Plan for the Way a Pool Deck Lives Here

South Louisiana pool decks see strong sun, humidity, heavy rain and repeated wet use while the underlying concrete can still move over time. Those conditions are part of the preparation, texture, protection and maintenance conversation from the start.

Pool Deck Resurfacing Questions

Is this the same as resurfacing the inside of my pool?

No. This page is about the concrete deck around the pool. Pool plaster, liners, fiberglass and interior pool-shell finishes are different work.

Can a cracked pool deck still be resurfaced?

Sometimes. The crack pattern, movement and slab condition have to be evaluated first. Repairable cracks may be addressed within scope, but resurfacing does not guarantee that future movement will never show through.

Can you make a pool deck slip-proof?

No surface should be described as slip-proof. Texture, traction additives where appropriate, water exposure and maintenance are considered together when the finish plan is selected.

What do you need to estimate a pool deck?

Wide photos from several corners, close photos of damage and pool edges, rough dimensions or square footage, what is currently on the concrete if known, and the finish direction you like are enough to start.

How soon can we use the pool area after resurfacing?

Return-to-use timing depends on the installed system, weather and site conditions. The project plan provides timing for that specific job rather than relying on one universal number.

Ready to Change the Concrete Around Your Pool?

Send a few photos, rough dimensions and what you want to change. We can start by deciding whether the deck needs a refresh, a new resurfacing finish or another approach, then narrow the design from there.

Next step

Show us the concrete. We’ll help narrow the right direction.

Photos and rough dimensions are enough to begin. If the project needs a site visit or more information, we’ll tell you what comes next.
